50-50 Chance

Empty Gulf Coast beach
early in the day
don’t know much about you
but that is ok,
At the petrol station
waiting for our gas
you’re driving a Maida
watching time float past,

So end up together
out here on the shore
paper cups of coffee
seeing what’s instore,
One should look for pleasure
wherever one might be
I look at you
and you look at me,

Stroll along the tide line
both our feet are bare
you look somewhat familiar
perhaps the color of your hair,
Your toenails are painted
the color of your car
walk a mile or two
then there we are,

Look out to the ocean
curvature of the earth
little bit of frankincense
little bit of myrrh,
Sprinkled on our bodies
as we enjoy the day
edge of reality
not much to say,

If we had a vessel
a boat, or a canoe
we could float away
search out somewhere new,
Learn about each other
or, perhaps, abstain
embrace the changing weather
a chance of morning rain,

Coffee Cabana opens
and there we go
two more cups of coffee
so much I don’t know,
Walk back the way we came
back to our cars
those virtual prisons
with real steel bars,

Stand here in the parking lot
both hands in my pants
if we flip a coin
a 50-50 chance,
We’d end up together
later in the day
hormones and probability
could go either way,
