A good ending to 12th episode of the series.

Ai meets an alternative version of herself which was.. it was eh, but I'll let it pass. I really hate that antagonist figure. She seems like a pandora wanna be from re zero (god like/unbeatable, mysterious figure) and even though I like pandora, I can't stand this overpowered WEP character. She's just so annoying.

I feel bad that Ai lost her eye and even with the extra episode in june, I'm still a bit unsure on how they are planning to conclude everything. This series started out fantastic with a strong 9/10 for me but it sadly went downhill so I'll settle for a generous 7/10 overall. I'm looking forward to the final episode in June

I was really worried if they gonna end this anime in the last ep. Thankfully they announced a special ep to be released in summer. There are many things that wasn't explained But its still pretty fun and depressing to watch. There's no way this is not inspired by Madoka Magica

There aren't inspired by Madoka Magica.
There are inspired by Idoly Pride, Sword Art Online, and developing new abstract metaphorical storytelling here, by emphasizing the power of scripting, just like you reading novel (that can be debated according to the ways of you seeing anime. Btw, this kind of storytelling methods is als used by Idoly Pride, but with more-predictable setting because their main genre is idol show).

Wakaranai! I don't even totally understand what was episode 12 all about? Just a bit of it. And who is who, having two Ai with the same outfit and WHAT THE HELL IS THAT, ENDING THING LIKE THAT AFTER THE INVESTING OF EMOTIONS AND ON? We deserve a proper ending. My rating wen from 10 to 9 to 7, I really see this as masterpiece cause of the premise but hufff, they just mess it up, they dont even know how to end it properly and that unplanned recap made it worst. Urrgghh, its frustrating. This is annoying!

Well, shit. This needs a 2nd season desperately. I had this at a 9/10, but I'm giving it an 8/10. Frill and the backstory of the world need more developing. Ai still needs to be developed, too. We've seen the incentive for her to change, but I'm not sure how to feel about it since that hasn't been executed yet. Yes, she's changed since the 1st ep, but she needs to learn how to to grow as a person without relying on her friends.

It ended but there are so many questions left unansweres. I think the special episode that will air in summer will be the actual final episode or maybe this will get a 2nd season. In any case, I'm still happy.

Literally same went from 9 to 8 may go to a 7 if all we get is that one single special episode because it looks to me that this was an establishing season and there would be solid material from a storyline perspective to have another cour of a season... it better have Season 2. No one is talking about season 2 tho so we’ll see if this show can eventually become a masterpiece or an abomination

This ending was so confusing for me qodjwksnwisj

I mean, I actually have no complaints on the anime though. Start to finish I really enjoyed it. One thing I really did like was at the end, Ai stopped being parallel. Once she broke through that big barrier in the sky, both she and the other Ai had the same corresponding eyes. Unlike in the beginning of the episode when they were clearly switched.

I noticed it and went :0000

Kirara Rodriguez Matured XVIII Evening Star SS Plum

Wtf was that name LMAO.

I felt that because of the last-minute parallel world "Ai" popping out from the egg, the episode became really hard to follow. I hope the "special" episode coming out in June will be able to conclude the story properly. 7/10 as of the moment.

Okay so after waiting and me falling asleep in the process I finally watched it.

This kinda dark episode and we learn more about the other Ai and the teacher being a creep.

Also, I was so confused between the two Ais when both had school uniforms, but the hairpins they had were different. The alternative world Ai had grey pins forming an X and the Ai we have seen has a yellow triangle pin

Thankfully not the real conclusion as we all have heard that in June get a special that is going to be the conclusion. In my opinion, the episode was okay and I'm not writing an explanation of it now since this is not the conclusion.^^

This show could've been much better if its production wasn't a mess. I feel bad for the animators. They made everything look beautiful but got hit by the production team.

I still don't think all the mystery can be resolved in the episode that they will air in july but it's better than nothing I guess. Hoping for a double length episode.

Man I didn't wanna say this, cause I had high hopes for this anime, but a plain bad episode. *sighs*

The starting with the girls interacting was ok. But the entire dream sequence felt poorly written. Koito-chan's characterization was butchered. She is nowhere near this weak to commit suicide cause of this silly provocation. If I don't get more explanation in the latter special episode, I may rate this even lower.

And how does this double suicide work actually?! In this world, Ai doesn't commit suicide. And in the bootlegged parallel world, there is no Koito chan whom Ai Mk.2 knows. So how??

1/5 for this episode. The anime drops from 8 to a 7 at the moment.

EDIT: Just a little clarification in case anyone missed. Some have given this episode a 1 thinking that this is the ending. I'm not included among them.

Honestly, this is what I hate with Anime getting different entries cause one episode didn't manage to fit in the broadcast shedule... So now I got to wait till the 29th of June till the conclusion and on a different entry as well. How the fuck do I even rate this lol...

Overall a great show, but having this end the way it did, I still need answers for a lot of things. We'll get it eventually late June, but still so confusing.

Jesus christ people change their opinion literally at the last second to go from "Best anime ever" to "Biggest dissapointment ever", many of them probably not realising the full story is not even complete

I can understand the frustration, I really do. This series has been hit hard by a very troubled production which had to cut out an episode to give the animators room to animate, and this kind of troubled production could have been prevented with better planning or just not having multiple anime airing in the same week.

Still, I feel it is so disingenious for people to completely trash an anime for its current 12 episodes and not having a proper ending while completely ignoring all its strenghts it had shown troughout the whole series: It is still a masterclass of directing and animation, it still tackles very real modern japanese problems, it still has characters which are interesting and have multiple layers, it still has heart wrenching moments that will stay with me for a while.

I have some genuine criticisms, like how this anime thinks having a lot of themes is the same as being deep, or how it handles too many themes, or how you can clearly see when the production begins to suffer, but those are minor complaints in the grand scheme of this great show. I am glad the anime community didn't sleep on this and I am glad that I watched this show.

Also, when will the 1s bot spammers be removed? It should now be a pretty obvious issue to MAL staff.

I'm looking forward to the special episode. I really hope it wraps everything up because they still have a lot to explain and go into more details on.

Also was there a reason Ai's hairclip kept changing when the other Ai got shot? One second The one saying good luck me had the other hair pin then when it showed her eye missing it was the original hair pin. It got really confusing and I was unsure if the real Ai was the one that died ...

So I am absolutely baffled.

First off the idea of Ai liking Sawaki felt more out of place than an apple at a cherry farm. The idea that she was wary of him came more from her own suspension than love. I think she said something along those lines.

Second, so many scenes in the eps 10, 11, and 12 feel incomplete. Why does Sawaki not answer unless he has something to hid, and why do the writers avoid it all together, just to tell us that adult love is bad. Ep 11 is a whole mess in an of itself because it adds more characters and more questions than answers. Ep 12, is well, you all saw what happened with that so I'm not even going there.

Third, and this is where it really makes no sense. What does the temptation of death, aka Frill, have to do with any of this? If she is the one behind the final push between life and the black pit, then why make her presence unknown until the last 2 episodes? There was alot of mystery behind Acca, and Ura-Acca, and only revealed in ep 11. This is unfathomable.

Fourth is a sum of all loose ends.
1. Parallel worlds? (God help us all)
2. What happened to Momoe, and Rika's friends? (They didn't even show them meeting)
3. Where is Neiru's sister in all of this? (We've never even seen the girl)
4. Is Sawaki truely an antagonistic character, or just a plot point? (His demeanor is very suspicious at almost all points, and ep 12 Sawaki hints at darker secrets)
5. Is Frill out there? Is she Thanatos? What the hell is a warrior of Eros? Is the group going to dissolve?

The last episodes piled on enough material for an entire second arc, and the fact remains there is no way this can be the last ep, and neither should there only be one remaining. There is simply too much out unanswered questions.

I liked this series from the get-go. I even put aside money if they decide to make a final ep on Blu-ray. If they do a Japan only screening make no mistake I'm hauling ass to watch it. But if this is the end, then it is the most disappointing and unfinished resolution I've ever seen in the entertainment medium. I've watched alot of shows in my 24 years of life. I've watched alot of movies, and read alot of books and managa, and manwha. None of which came close to being as sad and unfinished as this.

If this is the end of anime originals then it did not go out with a bang, but a whimper.

Edit: I gave it a 2 because the ep itself was not on par with anything. I like the show overall, I was going to give it an 8, but dropped down to a 6 because of how the story just lost itself like a blind man in a maze. It was like their asses were on fire and rushed into oblivion. I don't blame the animators, or studio. I partly blame the writers for coming up with more information and ideas surrounding the over arching theme(honestly their eyes are bigger than their stomach during the end), but I mostly blame the unforgiving monolith that is the anime industry. They are destroying potential for anime originals, and ruin so many good stories with cutthroat deadlines. Life is too short for bad anime, but it's even shorter knowing it's potential was far too great for it's time.

It isn't a good idea though, most people will forget a lot of elements when the OVA will be released, and the incomprehensible episode 12 isn't helping at all with the parallel worlds if you want to properly follow the story until the real last episode

I'm kinda annoyed at the fact that Ai asked Sawaki-sensei why Koito died in episode 10, and then the writers forgot about it. Plus, all those characters they introduced by the end (Neiru's friend, Frill, etc.) ruined the flow the series had going. But this episode in particular was not that bad. Ai got to meet an alternate version of herself that had committed suicide. Even though the execution wasn't anything outstanding, it was still an interesting concept that allowed a nice dynamic between the two Ais. Suicide Ai regrets what she did, and she says she wants to be as strong as the original Ai. And then Ai-1 says that it's silly because they're the same person. And that's a pretty good message all things considered.

I laughed when Sawaki's enlarged head threw in that art is an explosion Deidara line. It was also revealed this episode that Sawaki isn't a bad guy, and all those creepy hints throughout the series were due to Ai's perception of him. But then we hear him say "You should die before you grow up" while Ai and Koito were standing on the ledge. So did he provoke them or not? I'm getting mixed messages, and honestly, at this point, some of this should have been revealed. The last episode should be them piecing everything together, not a massive info dump + Thanatos battle + Character arc conclusion. To make matters worse, Ai was like "Y'know what? Maybe I don't wanna know what was up with Koito-chan." And just why would you backtrack with an out of place, 3 second flashback at this point? They've been teasing this Koito mystery the entire series. I also thought the scene of Ai losing her eye was messy. I was keeping track of the hairpins, and they switch around, and the flashforward was thrown in the middle of it. I just don't see the need for this to be so convoluted.

I'm just gonna hope the special episode rectifies this somehow, but my expectations are low. I really liked this show pre-recap, so for now I'm giving it a weak 7/10.

If this was actually the last episode, half of me would be thinking “that’s it??!” But the other half would be racking my brain to figure out what the creators were really trying to convey. Thankfully I won’t have to, because that was never their intention, and are going to conclude properly in June.

I didn’t fully understand it then and I definitely could barely follow this episode. Ai’s alternate reality self and the best friend who committed suicide (or maybe they’re the same person what??), what’s going on here? All I could pull from it is that someone redeemed them self, somehow.

At the end of the day I didn’t fully understand this show, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it or didn’t appreciate how it told its story. Just about every aspect to this anime was really good. But still wasn’t really my cup of tea. 5 or 6 out of 10. Might boost the score in June if it has a good conclusion. I hope it does

It's so sad that out of the egg came Ai which means that in a parallel world Ai never had her friends Rika, Momoe and Neiru, didn't met Koito and didn't confide in her mom, that led her to quitting on herself which is very sad. This was a great episode and hopefully the final episode when it does come is able to capitalize on it and on the whole series.

Because it will be full battle like shōnen mecha.
And it need more animators to build that (if you know something, CloverWorks (and A1 Pictures) outsourced much of mecha-like episodes to another studios like Sunrise Beyond, example).

is this actually how it ends? a special episode is coming out in june - will that finally give closure to all the unanswered questions?

so ai loved both koito and sawaki sensei at some point then.. but we still don't know the true nature of him nor koito's suicide.
neiru's story is also very much unfinished. in fact all of the mc's stories are not resolved.

shame this could only occupy a 12 (13) episode slot.. if it had more I'm sure there'd be enough time to clear everything up- even the dummies' story too (but I really can't give a damn about that). but I guess original anime can't risk something like stars align happening.

..and this was probably going to be my anime of the season ;-; what a shame.. it was an amazing series up to episode 11

Man, this felt like watching Hereditary all over again. In the way that, everything is executed extremely well, but the ending is kinda dogshit.

Because the REAL ENDING release on 29 June as special episode lmao https://twitter.com/AniTrendz/status/1376967350679785475?s=19

thank god. the last episode doesn't ruin the series or anything but it would still be bad if the series ended that way.

Pretty disappointing. Hopefully the special episode planned for June will be longer than usual, because there is no way everything will be resolved in just 20 minutes (if they ever want to resolve everything properly of course, what I'm not even convinced they plan to do).
