In this installment of the story, I'll be switching to the Jennifer character, it's just an exercise for me to write from multiple perspectives.

"I didn't see you for lunch today." I said as Sarah opened her door.

"I skipped lunch, I was feeling a bit foolish, I'm still adapting I guess." she said.

"I get it, listen, I'm going to talk to you like I've known you a lot longer than I have." I said seriously. "Figure out whatever is going to help you accept the situation, whether you feel blackmailed, or didn't have a choice, or that this is better than living in a world that would sooner see you dead than alive. You have to decide how to get to grips with the way life is going to be for you now. If I see you missing meals, or keeping yourself hidden away, I'll be knocking on this door a lot more than you'd prefer, I promise."

"This is all just a lot easier for you." she said.

It hadn't been. I was closer than anyone I knew to stepping off of the roof of the hotel we all called home these days. Easy? There's nothing easy about going from being a very heterosexual man, to worrying about which color eyeshadow to wear so you look as sexy for your husband as you can, in the hopes he'll fuck your brains out.

I had more patience for Sarah, because in spite of her having survived, mostly on her own for more than nine months, well, back then she was a he, but in spite of that, Sarah still seemed to be clinging to the idea that the world should be more like it used to be. Like it was before the flu killed almost everyone. She still seemed to be struggling with what was 'fair' or 'right', when the truth of the matter is, there was only 'how it is now'. It felt to me like, as much of a hard time as I had to finally set aside feeling like a victim, and just accepting my new life, it felt like Sarah would have a much more difficult time and I wondered if she'd find herself up on the same roof I'd been on. I couldn't imagine her not taking the fast way back down to the ground.

"It wasn't easy. Ask any of the women here. As far as I know, every single woman here used to be a very straight man before the flu. I'm not going to keep trying to convince you that we're all very happy, and more, LUCKY to be given such a stable and safe life. We all realized this place saved each of our lives. Sarah, I know it's a lot. I went through this just like you are, but it's time to start carrying on." I ended, a bit too harshly perhaps.

"I know, it's not helping that I'm even acting like a crazy woman and then complaining that people here made me do this." She said, it made no sense but she didn't realize it.

"You could have decided to leave, and go back to living on your own." I countered.

"Captain Yeager had a guy up on the roof standing by to kill me if I decided to pass on his offer and leave." she said dramatically.

I looked at her suspiciously, but supposed there may have been some truth to that, so I decided I'd talk to my husband about that at dinner tonight.

"I heard him tell some guy named Benjamin to come down from the roof after I told the Captain I'd decided to say." she said, shaking her head "The guy on the radio asked 'So he decided to stay?' so, why would there be someone up on the roof waiting to hear that I'd decided to stay?" she asked, and that was actually a good question. I'd definitely talk to Miller about it at dinner.

"Maybe just to watch and make sure you really left?" I answered it wasn't a great guess, but it may have been true.

"I asked the Captain if that guy was on the roof to shoot me if I left, and he wouldn't answer me!" she cried out.

"Okay, well I'll see if I can find out about that, now do I have to drag you out of here to get you to eat lunch?" I asked.

"I'm really not hungry, my chest is hurting more today, It hurts to lift up my arms even." she said, and sat back on her bed and almost pouted.

"I'm not sure why you're surprised, if you would have been sensible, and told the Doctor you wanted natural looking breasts, instead of those bimbo stripper titties, you'd be in a lot less pain." I scolded her, while I was jealous of Sarah's new breasts, there wasn't any reason I couldn't have asked for larger implants, I just had no interest in being a woman at the time, just like all of us at the hotel, well, it wasn't a hotel as much as it was an army base.

~

We sat across from each other in the 'chow hall' such that it was, it had once been a conference room in the hotel, but had been repurposed after Captain Yeager had determined this hotel, and the clinic next door, would be as good a place to set up a permanent residence as anything they'd seen.

Lunch today was a dish some of the Soldiers called Monkey Shit and Toast, it was actually a combination of pasta (many of the meals included pasta, simply because it lasted forever), canned chicken, cream of mushroom soup, and some of the bread we made in jury-rigged ovens made from big metal drums, and kept hot with wood fires below, the ovens were neatly lined up behind the base, or hotel, if it could still be called that.

In saner times, people may have complained about the meals, but everyone on the base realized that eating regular meals was far better than starving. For my part, I didn't mind the meals, and wanted to set a good example for Sarah as she was having difficulty realizing how incredibly lucky she was to have been given the chance to become a member of this community.

"No husband to keep you busy today?" Sarah asked.

"He's around, I think helping with trying to get a new generator setup. The men rotate their patrols so it's not the same ones going out each day." I said and then decided to share a worry with Sarah. Maybe it was because it seemed less complicated to talk to her, and I knew she wouldn't run around and tell everyone what I was about to tell her. "I don't think Miller tripped and cut his head, I've seen at least four different Soldiers walk up to him, and shake his hand, all of them talked quietly, and some even gave him a hug before walking off. You might not believe me, but the men don't normally hug each other here."

Sarah listened, and then leaned across the table, and lowered her voice, asking "What do you think happened?"

"I don't know, and it almost feels like if something bad happened, I'd rather not know. You know how dangerous it is out there. Still, I'm worried things have gotten worse." I said, shaking my head.

"Two weeks before I found this place I got really lucky, I hadn't had anything to eat for three days, and was fading pretty quick. It takes fuel to walk and I was running on fumes. It was raining and I had spent the night in a gutted welding supply store just to stay dry, out of nowhere I hear someone shoot and then a lot of shots followed, a dog started crying out, and I poked my head near one of the broken windows of the place, and saw a mangy mutt scrambling for it's life and then collapsed, or crashed into big overgrown bush around the corner of the street. A minute later, a guy with a rifle came jogging around the corner, looking around. I figured out that he'd shot at the dog for the meat, he looked around for a minute, then ran back the way he'd come. I waited an hour, and then searched the bush and found the dog, dead. I couldn't tell you the last time I'd eaten as much in a single day. I know if that guy would have seen me, he would have killed me. So yeah, I know how dangerous it is out there." she said, and looked at her plate of food, then shook her head and brought another forkful to her mouth.

"He's never told me that they've ever found people on patrols." I said, speaking of Miller.

"Well, where did all of the other umm.. 'women' come from then?" she asked.

"I'm not sure really, they caught you trying to sneak into the hotel to steal the solar panels right?" I asked.

"Not quite, I was trying to charge my phone, I saw the solar array on the roof, I just wanted to charge my phone." she said, and shook her head.

"Rumors happen I suppose, who did you expect to call? Pizza delivery?" I asked, hoping to lighten the mood.

"I just wanted to use my navigation app." she said, and then seemed lost in thought.

"It's safer here." I reassured her.

"I lasted nine months out there." she snapped back.

"How much longer was that luck of yours going to last?" I asked gently.

"When you put it like that, I suppose I should be thankful I found this place. Afterall, I just needed to agree to these." she said, pointing to her breasts "and then smile and suck some guys dick for the rest of my life, oh wait, but there's more, I get to bend over and get fucked in the ass too, yep, I'm pretty damned lucky."

I nodded, what she needed right now was someone to vent to, I'd done the same thing after I made my decision to stay all of those months ago. "When I sucked your dick, you liked it right?" I asked.

That blew the wind out of Sarah's sails.

"Yeah, every time." she said.

"At first, you didn't know I used to be a guy too, but then you knew, and still, you.. You know what you did." I said, Sarah may have never sucked a dick before that, but she had changed enough that she actually asked if she could after our night together.

"It's different." she answered quickly.

"How? Because I look like this?" I asked. "That doesn't change the fact that you enjoyed it, you still enjoy it, and Sarah, don't hear this the wrong way, but I know you like sucking my dick, you've asked me if you could, all on your own." I stopped and let that sink in "Maybe back when the world was normal you would have been disgusted, or maybe you would have discovered something new about yourself and not worried as much about labels, but the thing to remember is that nobody wants the world we have today, nobody. In spite of that, we adapted, and at least here, we're surviving. I think if you had given up you may have just let that guy shoot you that was looking for the dog, or you would have told Captain Yeager that you decided to pass on the offer to stay here."

"I'm not suicidal." She shot back.

"So, instead of starving out there, all on your own, worrying what day your luck would run out, you've traded that in for safety, and food. But the cost is looking like me, and eventually sexually pleasing one of the men. You sucked my dick, sucking one of the men's dick won't be so different, and if you need to hear this, then I'll tell you. We both know that if you would have been captured out there on your own, you would have sucked a dick to stay alive, you would have willingly bent over to stay alive. Here, you have more freedom about that, and here, nobody is going to put a bullet in your head right after you make them cum, because they cant take a chance you'd kill them in their sleep." I finished, those were all the thoughts and arguments I had before I made my decision here, I hoped they had an impact on Sarah.

"It just felt so unexpected, having sex again, I couldn't even tell you the last time I jerked off out there on my own." She said, shaking her head.

"You don't have to do that anymore Sarah, I'll always be here to make you feel better." I said, and winked at her, then followed with my tongue sliding across my upper lip.

One of the women that worked in the kitchen came out into the chow hall and hefted one of the totes that people put the dirty dishes into, I knew her name was Maggie, and she had been here since before me. She was skinny, probably not more than twenty years old, she had long brown hair that was tied into a bun, she had fair skin, big green eyes and moved with the grace of a cat. Her breasts were small, and her ass was just barely there, but Maggie was easily the closest thing to a 'normal' woman in the compound.

'Hey Maggie.' I called out.

'Hey there Jen.' she replied, then smiled and nodded to Sarah.

'Maggie, this is Sarah. She's new.' I said.

'Hi Sarah, are you settling in okay?' she asked as she set the tote down, and joined us at our table.

'There's a lot to adjust to.' Sarah answered, I could tell she was trying to make an effort.

"I'm sure Jen's already told you a dozen times, but you're really lucky to have found this place, and it was really smart of you to join our little community. By next week you'll look back and it'll all seem a lot less crazy." she said with a warm smile, she reached out her hands, and gripped one of Sarah's, then looked at me, then back at Sarah, and finally let her gaze drop to Sarah's stripper titties, where she lingered for a while. "The women sometimes gather near the pool after evening chow if we don't have other plans, it's silly but we gossip like old ladies and drink coffee, you should look for us, especially before one of the men steals you away. You won't be able to hide those with a horse blanket if you tried." she finished with a grin.

"That reminds me, there's a certain nurse I need to go discuss that with." Sarah replied, blushing.

"Well, again welcome. I've gotta get these dishes washed. Oh hey, have you decided what kind of work you'll be doing here yet?" she asked.

"I'm not sure, maybe some kind of map-reading job, I think?" she answered and shrugged a bit.

Maggie let go of Sarah's hand, and then raised one up, then slowly moved it close to her throat, and asked "Can I show you something?"

Sarah looked over to me, and I nodded, then she nodded at Maggie, who gently put her fingers on either side of Sarah's throat.

"Right around here, if you tighten up a bit, and before you speak, think of how women sound, at first you have to keep reminding yourself, but in no time it'll happen automatically, it'll help more with your voice." she paused "I know you're trying, and I know it's all so much to take in. The women really try to look out for each other, and I don't want you to feel like I'm picking on you. You'll see, we really try to make our lives easier to adjust to, we lift each other up when we're feeling down." she smiled again, and took her hand away from Sarah's throat "Okay, try." she said.

"Umm." Sarah hesitated, then cleared her throat and blinked a few times as she tried to do as Maggie had advised "It's strange." her voice was higher now, but not very natural sounding, she cleared her voice again and began to speak, and her voice began to transform into something quite natural and feminine sounding.

Maggie and I both smiled at the same time, nodding our heads at Sarah.

"100% better, and before wasn't bad. You're a natural Sarah." Maggie complimented her.

A smile spread across Sarah's face hearing the praise, and she nodded at me, she must have been surprised she could sound like she just had.

"I can teach you how to have the most earth-shattering orgasms from being fucked too, just pull me aside if thats something you decide you'd like to learn more about." Maggie said, as nonchalantly as if asking for cream for her coffee.

Sarah's eyes bulged, and her cheeks turned bright red, she looked at me, and I just grinned and nodded.

"Okay ladies, well it's back to work for me." Maggie said cheerfully, then stood, retrieved the tote and was gone from the room moments later.

Sarah and I stared at each other silently for what seemed like an hour, until I finally broke the silence and asked "Did you notice her hands?"

"Were those cigarette burns?" Sarah asked, having seen the circular scar's on the back of Maggie's hands.

"The men found him nailed to the wall of a barn a few hours from here. He'd been shot and left for dead. They said he died on the ride back here, and Edwards wouldn't stop doing CPR on him, everyone else in the patrol told him it was no use, but he wouldn't stop. Somehow, he brought him back. The Doctor said it was a miracle he survived having lost as much blood as he had." I explained, it was a gruesome story, but Sarah needed to understand.

"It took a while, but he recovered, physically anyway. He attached himself to Edwards anytime he wasn't out on patrol, trying to repay him and he just couldn't understand when Edwards tried to explain that he didn't owe him anything, it's hard to understand the mind of a soldier." I said, then continued "He never hesitated when the Captain explained what his options were if he wanted to stay on. So when Maggie woke from that last surgery, she knew who she wanted to marry, and I suppose she eventually wore Edwards down."

"Oh my God." Sarah gasped.

"They didn't find you out there nailed to a barn did they?" I asked.

Sarah shook her head.

"You didn't happen to die on the ride back here, right?" I pressed on.

"No." Sarah answered, in a small voice.

"Things can always be worse, much much worse Sarah." I finished, and felt like, if I hadn't made my point with sharing Maggie's story, then nothing I could ever say would convince her.

She kept her eyes on me and nodded her head, and said nothing.

"One last thing, you told me before that you hadn't had a meal in two days when you were up on the hill looking through your binoculars..."

She nodded, but didn't speak.

"I wonder, if they would have brought you in here, sat you down at this same table and brought out a huge plate of spaghetti, a glass of sweet tea, or a cup of hot coffee, and told you you could eat until you couldn't swallow another bite, but first you'd have to suck ten guys dicks, and the last guy was going to bend you over and fuck you..." I stopped for a moment, to let it all sink into her head. "And then were told you had to leave the following day, with best wishes and a hope that a gang of murderers wouldn't find you and kill you for fun. I think we both know you would have taken the offer."

Sarah shuddered and answered "I'm not sure about that."

"Really? Be honest."

"I know that you're trying to make a point." She sighed.

"No, I'm trying to make you see how incredibly lucky you are. They said they were laughing while you were hiding on top of that hill trying to be sneaky. You said Benjamin was on the roof to kill you if you left, imagine if they decided not to take the chance on the guy spying on us, imagine if they had simply told him to kill you."

Sarah shuddered again, and bit her lip.

"Things could always be worse, much much worse."

-

The rest of the week came and went, Sarah had recovered to the point of growing restless. She spent hours in the various 'command' rooms and listened as the various patrols checked in with the base, and paid attention to what they'd report finding. She would follow their progress with a series of heavily marked up paper travel maps that hung from all of the walls in these rooms. The Captain gave her whatever space she needed, although he knew that her interest in what was happening 'outside of the wire' made it obvious she wanted to contribute in some way that tracked what the men were doing while out in harm's way.

She had found me several nights after evening chow out near the pool, chatting with the other women and even went out of her way to make some new friends on her own. It seemed like she had finally accepted that it was a different world, with an entirely new set of rules.

Friday evening, she pulled me aside and told me that she'd had several conversations with the Captain, and had asked if she could fill an Analyst role. The Captain nearly scared her to death when he nodded and explained that the job was vital, that bad decisions on her part, could result in lost lives. She said that she went back to her 'house' and cried like a baby, a combination of feeling sorry for herself, but also, more importantly, wanting desperately to not let the men down, or cause husbands' to not make it back to their wives.
